Amber is a medium-sized black sable girl who came in with her lifelong cagemate Rob. They will need to be adopted out together as they are very bonded. They do like other ferrets though and seem to enjoy playing with them. She was bred by Real Canadian Ferretry, so she is larger than Marshall's ferrets.

Rob and Amber had a hard life before the shelter. They were mistreated when they were very young and then they were caged outside in winter for 6 months. They had no bedding in their cage and no shelter from the snow, rain, and hail that dumped on them all winter (A Moscow, ID winter!). After their fourth month of being alive, they were beaten and thrown in the cage without human contact, until a rescuer picked them up and brought them to QCFR. Their food was even dumped into the top of the cage: The cage was disgusting, not fit for anything to live in. (I am told the pressure washer had a really hard time cleaning off all the blood, excerement, and stuck-on rabbit food). Because of all this, they were a very difficult pair as they were very untrusting of humans.

The change in them after QCFR spent months on breaking their trust and aggression issues is AMAZING! They are new creatures who love to be held, petted and played with. They now enjoy other ferrets, people, and even do well with children in the same room. We do recommend families with children older than 6 who will not try to pack or push Amber and Rob around adopt them. As with any traumatized animal, they can be pushed to bite. Children who can understand this will do just fine with them. Amber is a doll and wants to be picked up. A family with ferret experience is necessary as an understanding of ferret body language is crucial.
